Juneau Whale Watch and Mendenhall Glacier Combo Tour

     Join us for Whale Watching in our cool Alaskan waters and then view one of 38 glaciers - the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier. We guide you on a 2 hour whale watching tour, spotting Humpback whales and other wildlife. Then off to the Mendenhall Glacier to spend some time hiking, watching fish spawn at Steep Creek or enjoy an outstanding view from the Visitor Center.

Tour Duration: Approximately 5 hours.

  • On your way to the boat harbor, listen to informative commentary from your driver about the capitol city of Juneau. 
  • Aboard our smaller 24 or 49 passenger whale-watching boats, enjoy a comfortable heated cabin with wide-viewing windows and spacious decks for wildlife spotting.  When our captain spots the whales, the boat slows and step out on the deck for that perfect whale shot.  The on-board Naturalist is full of information about Alaska’s wildlife – Humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, Dall’s porpoises, bald eagles. A small snack and water are available.
  • The Mendenhall Glacier is the next stop with the visitor center included in your tour. Find out about the formation of glacier’s and  Walk to Nugget Creek Falls, Photo Point, Steep Creek or take the Trail of Time – a trail of story boards where the glacier used to be.
  • When you’re ready to leave, take the shuttle bus to return to Juneau’s port – the schedule is flexible to allow a shorter or longer time at the glacier, depending on your ship schedule.  It leaves every 30 minutes from the glacier.
  • Afternoon tours are reversed – the first stop is at the Mendenhall Glacier, with an appointed time for the pick-up at the Glacier
  • Tour time is approximately 5 hours.

The meeting place is in front of the Mt. Roberts Tramway. The dock representatives are under the tram car cables holding a Juneau Tours / Juneau Whale Watch sign.

3 of the docks are within walking distance.

Dock A or "AJ" dock is the furthest dock. Look to the left as you exit the ship, the cruise line provides a "Downtown" shuttle, which will drop you right in front of the TRAMWAY. A small fee may apply.

Dock B or Franklin Dock - turn left and walk along the SeaWalk to Downtown, a short 8 minute walk. You'll see the Mt. Roberts Tramway building in front of you. Head towards the cables.

Dock C is straight ahead.  Go around to the street side of the Mt. Roberts Tramway building and meet under the cables. 

Dock E or Steamship dock - when you get to the sea walk, turn right, walk along the boardwalk and look for the Mt Roberts Tramway building on the left after Tracy's Crab Shack.

CHECK IN with our dock representatives in front of the Mt. Roberts Tramway, they will be holding a Juneau Tours / Juneau Whale Watch Sign.

  • Tour operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately - dress in layers with the likely chance of rain.
  • All transfers between Port to Boat Harbor and return.

  • Toddlers and Infants under 3 are free. Please let us know your toddler or infant is coming along in the NOTES box.
  • Gratuities are optional, but greatly appreciated.
  • Tour time is a check-in time, departure is within 15 to 30 minutes.
  • The meeting place is under the cables in front of the Mt. Roberts Tramway.
  • No food is allowed at the Mendenhall Glacier due to wildlife activity.  No food services are available at the glacier either.  This is to protect both the wildlife and visitors at the park.
  • We do offer water and a small snack aboard our whale watch boat.
